Following the success from last years All Energy Exhibtion, Axon Power & Control will be attending this years All Energy show on the 18th and 19th of May in Aberdeen.

The All Energy Exhibition which is in its 11th year is the UK’s largest event devoted to all forms of clean and renewable energy.

Axon Power & Control have helped to speed up recycling in Cork with the recent completion of the controls system automation for Greenstar.
Greenstar’s Cork facility is a state of the art Materials Recycling Facility which has been fitted out with the most up to date technology in order to minimise landfill waste and maximise recyclable extraction.
Upon consultation with the plants Technical Manager Axon Power & Control designed an electrical control system specific to the needs of the plant which includes remote operator stations and the availability for online monitoring of operations.

The online monitoring of operations allows Axon Power & Control to make any changes necessary to the plants operations without physically having to send a man onsite, the benefit of this means quicker turnaround times and lower maintenance costs for the customer.
The remote operator stations enable staff on site to make alterations to the recycling process during operations so for example they can alter the speed of a conveyor belt etc.
In addition to the design build and manufacture of the controls system for the recycling facility Axon Power & Control also completed the electrical Installation and commissioning of the plant.
Upon completion of the Greenstar Project Pearse McGrath from Greenstar said

Back from the All Energy show in Aberdeen Axon Power & Control enjoyed a successful exhibition. 

Exhibiting at the show for the first time were Plunkett Mc Geary, John Donaghy and Shannon Montague.

The exhibition which is Europes largest event devoted to all forms of clean and renewable energy attracted over 450 exhibitors and several thousand visitors.

The tournament which took place on Saturday 24th April 2010 was divided into three Groups.

The Replacements who were made up of players from the firsts to fourths including Axon Power & Controls very own Peter Barry went on to win the PJ Ryan Cup in a final contested with Carrick. Standing out on the pitch was an easy task for the men in the pink jerseys but the final score of 27/17  proved The Replacements stood out for the right reason.

Axon Power & Control extends their congratulations to the Replacements team on their win and look forward to them defending their title next year.

The project comprised the design and build of the plant motor control panel, the plant electrical services installation, including power factor correction equipment, and final testing and commissioning of the installed equipment in conjunction with the LJH engineers.

The plant automation was specifically designed to incorporate all aspects of the plant control into one central control system; from this location the operator can monitor the running of the complete plant and all ancillary equipment.

At the heart of the control system is a Schneider Electric PLC system, which relays information from ancillary panels such as those controlling the eddy current separator equipment, electro magnets and belt weighers and transfers this information to the PLC.  This data is then converted and displayed as operator friendly information on the HMI display terminal.

The layout and functionality of the display terminal was designed to maximise ease of use and productivity. The display terminal allows the operator to see the status of the plant graphically at a glance, with more detailed information available as necessary.

In order to more accurately control plant throughput the belt weigher was integrated with the PLC system, thus allowing instantaneous and accurate feed rate control via the set point as determined by the operator. The production rate can be viewed in real time on the display terminal, or the information can be viewed via the historical trend graph which plots the actual productivity against the operator set point. 

All of the information gathered regarding tonnes per hour, motor current, plant alarms are logged to a removable USB pen drive.  This information can then be transferred to a PC where the customer can create a record of the plants performance with minimum effort.

The trend graphs can be easily viewed using standard spreadsheet software allowing the plant manager to effortlessly scan through the production records.  Similarly alarm logs can also be viewed in a spreadsheet or table format showing the time, date and the nature of the alarm condition.
